Union gears up for new talks


The union representing more than 700 scientists and engineers at the Chalk River labs is gearing up for its next round of negotiations.

The Chalk River Professional Employees Group (CRPEG) and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) last reached a three-year contract agreement in March 2022.

The contract covered the calendar years 2021-23.

With the end of that deal now just a month away, the two sides met earlier this month, November 9, to exchange proposals.

Negotiation meetings have been scheduled for December and January 2024.

Future negotiation dates will be scheduled in the new year, CRPEG noted in a bargaining update posted last Friday.

The union says its negotiating team met “a number of times over the spring, summer, and fall to prepare for the next round of bargaining”…
