Deep River is considering freeing-up municipal property for residential development near Lamure Beach.
A report on this week’s agenda is asking council approval to evaluate the market interest in developing a portion of the lands along Beach Avenue and Cedar Road.
Proposals would be invited through a formal “request for expressions of interest.”
The report notes the town was recently approached by a “local development group” interested in constructing residential housing on the lands in question, on both sides of Beach Avenue, including the area sometimes used as a parking lot.
“Access trails to Lamure Beach and Bill Rounding Park, and a creek, are on the immediate boundary of these lands,” the report states.
“It must be noted that these lands are currently not utilized except for snow storage in the parking lot.”
The properties, currently zoned as Open Space, “are readily-serviced by existing water and wastewater infrastructure,” the report states, and are “appropriate for low and medium-density residential uses.”
“Infill development of vacant or underutilized lots is an efficient approach, producing new tax and utility revenue with limited financial or environmental expense,” the report states…
