Several new candidates have stepped forward to round out the election lists in Deep River and Laurentian Hills.
Jay Crawford and Benjamin Myers have filed their nominations for Deep River councillor, while Sue Elliot and Dick Rabishaw will seek to represent ward seats in Laurentian Hills.
With the new nominations, both municipalities now have a full slate of candidates for their next municipal council.
Elections for the new councils will be held October 26.
The deadline to file nominations is 2 pm, Friday, August 21.
In Deep River, Sue D’Eon and Glenn Doncaster have both filed to serve another term as mayor and reeve respectively.
Current Councillors Will Fitton, Tom Vaughan, and Christina Giardini have also filed for re-election.
Councillor Kathy Hughes has announced she will not be running again, while Councillor Terry Myers has not yet announced his plans.
Crawford is well known in the community for his volunteer efforts as the founder of Deep River Geekfest and currently as manager of the Deep River bowling alley, as well as his social media posts.
Announcing his candidacy on Facebook last week, Crawford said “let the learning begin.”
“Let me be your voice. I believe a community can build a community. We need open dialogue so we all can help make this community ours.”
Myers grew up in Deep River and moved back to town two years ago with his family…
