Deep River council has given the approval to the creation of new residential building lots in the east end of town.
In the extreme east end of town, that is.
Council voted in favour of a staff recommendation last week to declare as “surplus” town-owned property adjacent to Legere Drive, off Highway 17 at the boundary line of Deep River and Laurentian Hills.
The recommendation comes on the heels of a development workshop council held two years ago, at which time direction was given to investigate the feasibility of creating several residential lots along Legere Drive.
Staff are recommending the creation of seven, one-acre lots on the property, all serviced by wells and septic tanks.
Six of the lots would have 40 metres of frontage on Legere Drive, with the seventh having 70 metres, offering it some additional uses under the town’s zoning bylaw requirements for residential use.
The lot layout being proposed would require an extension of Legere Drive itself by up to 80 metres to provide frontage to the easternmost lots…
