Town to move forward with ATV bylaw


All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will be allowed to drive on the streets of Deep River next spring.

Town council gave direction to staff at its last regular meeting to spend the winter months preparing a bylaw which will allow ATVs to travel on certain roadways in the municipality for a trial period of a year.

The subject of whether they should be allowed to do so had been a hot-button topic in town for most of last year, after the Renfrew County All Terrain Vehicle club (RCATV) sought permission for those vehicles to be driven on some of the streets in Deep River.

A club delegation brought a draft bylaw to council for consideration.

Terms of that bylaw, similar to one enacted in Arnprior, would see ATVs permitted on certain roads and trails approved by the municipality, while restricting their access to other areas such as parks and the downtown core…
