For at least the 13th year in a row, the town of Laurentian Hills is set to maintain a zero per cent increase in its local tax rate.
Laurentian Hills council will deal with its 2025 budget at its May meeting next Wednesday morning.
The draft budget is posted on the town’s website for the public to view in advance of the meeting.
The budget proposes freezing the town’s tax rate where it has been since 2013, at $742 for every $100,000 of assessment.
One thing noticeable by its absence in this year’s budget is any money towards the cost of repairs to the Deep River Community Pool.
Deep River Mayor Sue D’Eon wrote to both Laurentian Hills and the townships of Head, Clara, Maria last fall to ask that the two municipalities contribute to the town’s pool costs.
Deep River council agreed last August to award contracts worth $804,395 for repairs to the pool roof and replacement of the sound baffles inside.
In a letter to Mayor Anne Giardini and council, D’Eon asked Laurentian Hills to provide a “proportional contribution” to the pool project, “based on population and (the) number of households in the North Renfrew community”…
