Town to ask county to take over Banting Drive

Deep River will be formally asking the County of Renfrew to assume a major portion of Banting Drive into its road network.

That’s the recommendation from David McCarthy, the town’s director of operations, in a report on the agenda for this week’s town council meeting.

Deep River has already budgeted $400,000 in this year’s capital budget for the repaving of Banting Drive from Highway 17 to the hospital, with the town hoping to secure $140,000 in grant funding.

The project is contingent on the county agreeing to assume Banting into its road network, and assuming responsibility for its maintenance after the work has been completed.

In his report, McCarthy reiterates the town’s belief that Banting Drive exceeds the minimum criteria for inclusion in the county’s road network.

He recommends Deep River ask the county to conduct a study of the roadway using the criteria laid out in the county’s roads rationalization study…
