Taxes are going up in Deep River, but not as much as originally planned.
Residential property taxes in the municipality will rise by 2.13 percent this year, after town council signed off last week on its 2022 operating budget.
The budget process for the town began back in August, and several budget meetings have been held since then.
The most recent such meeting, in December, forecast a 3.2 percent increase in residential property taxes.
Municipal treasurer Arthur Smith explained to council last week that the tax decrease stems from changes which have been made to the budget since its December iteration….
