Grouse Park is where the action will be beginning Saturday morning, as the town gears up for its first 3-on-3 outdoor hockey tournament.
Organizer Stephan Bouliane of Clean & Creative Lifestyle Co. (in photo below, centre, with wife Terra and children Hunter and Hadlee) has 25 teams and more than 170 players signed up for the event, set to kick off Saturday, January 15 and running again Sunday, January 16 and next Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23.
Teams will play in six divisions, from ages 9-11 up to men’s (19+). Games begin at 10 am and run through the early evening. COVID protocols will be in place.

Tournament sponsors Kristen Hawley of Exit Realty, Jason Crawford of J-Dogs Smoking Grill, Brady Miller of Big Shiny Windows and Jodie Primeau of Primeau Law gathered with Bouliane and Deep River staff David McCarthy and Jacob Causey last Sunday for a ceremonial “face-off” to begin the countdown to this week’s on-ice action. (Missing from photo are sponsors Jan’s Valu-mart, James J Hickey Realty, Lance’s Convenience and Nutrafarms Inc.)
