There’s far more to Renfrew County’s paramedic service than your traditional ambulances.
That was the message delivered to the county’s mayors and reeves recently by Mike Nolan, chief paramedic and director of emergency services, in an update on the paramedic service’s elite SIERRA Team.
The team is a specialized group of wilderness-trained paramedics who respond to medical emergencies in remote areas, using advanced technology and communications.
“We’ve been incredibly busy with SIERRA responses throughout the county, as well as in Algonquin Park,” Nolan told county council’s health committee.
He cited an incident which occurred earlier this month at an interior lake in the park in which four people were struck by lightning.
