NRT wins “Better Newspaper” awards


The North Renfrew Times has once again earned multiple awards in Ontario’s “Better Newspapers Competition.”

The contest is sponsored each year by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA).

Award finalists are announced each year in February, with first, second and third place awards normally presented at the OCNA’s spring convention.

This year’s awards were presented in a virtual ceremony last Friday.

For 2023, the NRT received five awards – first for “Community Service,” second for “Best Sports Photo” and “Best Creative Ad” (Jane Barkley), and two thirds for “Best Guest/ Freelance Column” (Jenna Walsh) and “Humour Columnist of the Year” (Vance Gutzman).

The paper also received an Honourable Mention in the category of “Diversity Coverage” for reporting on Deep River’s 2023 Pride Parade and events…
