Roadwork project comes in under budget

Work will begin in earnest this summer on one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Deep River this year.

That comes after town council last week awarded a $520,746 contract to McCrea Excavating for the reconstruction of Hammond Court.

The reconstruction project is a top priority in the town’s 2024 capital budget.

Although the project comes with a correspondingly high price tag, the total cost is actually about $25,000 less than what was forecast in the capital budget.

In addition to the contract awarded to McCrea Excavating, an additional $73,776 has been set aside for engineering and design work by Jp2g Consultants, bringing the total cost of the project to $594,522.

The town had budgeted $620,000 for the reconstruction work, and McCrea Excavating’s bid was the lowest of three the town received in response to tenders for the project…
