Police continue their investigation into what appears to be a random act of savage violence on a local street.
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed this week that as of noon Tuesday, there is still no suspect in custody, despite statements to the contrary on social media.
“I saw that too,” said OPP Sergeant Erin Cranton, media contact for the investigation.
Until further communication is forthcoming, “I can confirm that nobody is in custody,” she said, speaking to the NRT by phone before the paper went to press.
The investigation began when Deep River Police were called to respond at about 4:30 pm last Wednesday afternoon to a violent assault on McElligott Drive at Golf Course Rd.
The female victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” by workers at the nearby Deep River Arena.
The victim was conscious at the hospital and was later taken to hospital in Ottawa where she was listed as being in critical condition.
The Ontario Provincial Police were called in to assist with the investigation and by shortly after 6 pm, police had issued a “shelter in place” order for the whole town…
