Deep River Mayor Sue D’Eon is proposing the town look into ways to help low-income families and seniors deal with rising water rates.
D’Eon has presented a “notice of motion” that will be on council’s agenda tonight that directs town staff to “investigate a water utility deferral program for low-income seniors and low-income disabled residents,” similar to that offered in the city of Ottawa or “other Ontario municipalities.”
In her motion, D’Eon notes the town adopted a water rate study by Watson & Associates last year that includes water rate increases “above inflation but deemed necessary to adequately sustain the system”….
