Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, under the direction of OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), have laid an additional charge as a result of a “sudden death” investigation in the City of Pembroke.
Clement Mainville, age 55 from Pembroke, is now charged with Manslaughter, contrary to Section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.
The accused was released and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on February 22, 2022. The accused is already facing charges laid in relation to this case in May of 2021.
On April 28, 2021, police were called to a residence on Elizabeth Street in Pembroke where Jim Witters, 58 years old of Pembroke, was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital.
Mainville was arrested May 6, 2021 and charged with:
• Obstructing a peace officer
• Trafficking in a schedule I substance – fentanyl.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
