Help is not on the way: townships denied again in effort to find auto-ex agreement

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

That appears to be the mantra of Head, Clara and Maria (HCM) as it continues to push for an auto extrication agreement with neighbouring municipalities.

HCM had been part of a three-way agreement with the towns of Deep River and Laurentian Hills for the provision of auto-extrication service throughout the three municipalities.

Under the agreement, firefighters from HCM’s neighbours would respond to accidents along Highway 17 with an emergency truck equipped with the “Jaws of Life” and other rescue gear.

That agreement, however, was dissolved in 2019, by mutual agreement of all three municipal partners.

HCM has since reached out to its neighbours on a number of occasions, asking for some form of auto-ex agreement to be reinstated, but has been rebuffed in its efforts.

Most recently the municipality pled its case again to Laurentian Hills, with HCM Mayor Debbi Grills writing sending a letter to its eastern neighbour…
