Firefighters respond to call at DR Arena

2011

Deep River firefighters responded quickly late Friday morning to reports of smoke and a burning smell in the lobby at the Deep River Arena.

Children and leaders from the town’s summer day camp programs evacuated the building and regrouped at a safe distance outside.

Town staff working on renovations to the arena mezzanine also evacuated and awaited word that they could resume their work.

Firefighters remained on scene at the noon hour investigating the cause of the callout. Meter readings indicated air inside the building was clear and breathing apparatus was not required.

No further details are yet available.
