Fatal shooting in Renfrew

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a homicide in the town of Renfrew.

Police say officers were called to a residence on Vimy Boulevard shortly before 10:30 pm Friday night, where they found a victim who had sustained gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to hospital, where the coroner pronounced the individual deceased. 

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Police say they believe the victim was targeted and that this is an isolated incident. 

The investigation is being conducted by the Renfrew OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Centre of Forensic Sciences. Members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit are assisting. 

The OPP is urging local residents to report any suspicious activity to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 (or 911), or anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Police say the investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released when available.
