Almost three years after the Covid-19 pandemic turned the world on its head, Renfrew County will quietly revoke its final vaccine mandate at the end of the month.
In a report to the county’s health committee Wednesday, Mike Blackmore, the county’s director of long-term care, is recommending that the vaccination policy for the county’s long-term care homes be repealed as of March 1.
“Current vaccination policy dictates that all staff, essential caregivers, students and volunteers require three doses of Covid vaccine and that general visitors have two doses,” Blackmore noted.
However, third doses of the vaccine were administered for most staff, students and volunteers over a year ago, “significantly limiting any transmission prevention utility that may have existed.”
“Further, there is no current evidence to support that individuals with current bivalent Covid vaccinations are prevented from contracting and spreading Covid-19,” he said.
If the committee and county council support Blackmore’s recommendation, it will come almost a year after the county revoked its general vaccine policy for all members of county staff…
