Renfrew County will give preference to “Canadian-made goods provided by Ontario-owned businesses” in response to tariffs levied by US President Donald Trump.
The county is changing its procurement policy as part of a tariff response plan that also includes business surveys, a “THINK Local” campaign, and lobbying efforts for government support to help businesses hit by the trade war.
“Very impressive work,” said Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy when the plan was presented to the county’s development and property committee recently.
County council will sign off on the new procurement rules today.
“I think that there are going to be growing pains but I applaud this,” Murphy said.
Under the new policy, the county will give preference when issuing tenders or RFPs (requests for proposals) to Ontario businesses, Canadian businesses, or businesses from a “Canadian trade partner country”…
