Council votes for 3.9% raise

Members of Laurentian Hills council are giving themselves a raise.

Council voted last week for a remuneration bylaw that will increase their base pay each year by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Ontario as of the previous October.

For 2025, that works out to a 3.9 per cent hike.

The new base pay for the mayor will be $20,425 while councillors will receive $10,938.

Council members also receive an honorarium of $115 per meeting of council or committees, along with other committees, boards or commissions council members may serve on outside the town.

Based on their remuneration report for 2024, for example, Mayor Anne Giardini earned a total of $23,108 last year – $19,658 as base pay and $3,450 for meetings she attended.

(The mayor is also paid separately for meetings she attends and work she does on behalf of Renfrew County council.)

Deputy Mayor Brenda Blimkie was second on the list, collecting $10,528 for her position as councillor and $2,990 for meetings attended, for a total of $13,518…
