The final bell hasn’t rung yet on a final decision by the town of Deep River to purchase the former Keys School property.
That was the message coming out of a closed session of town council last week as it deliberated the potential purchase of the property in conjunction with the County of Renfrew.
Prior to going into closed session, council passed a bylaw approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the county “for the shared opportunity to purchase the discontinued Keys Public School… for the purpose of community and/or residential use.”
The town and county agreed back in June to file a joint expression of interest in the property.
That was prompted by Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) trustee Jodie Primeau, in her capacity as a private citizen, urging the town in May to consider buying the former school for use as a new municipal community centre.
The MOU agreed to last week takes that one step further, stating that both the town and the county “recognize the need for a community hub and seniors living space to cater to the needs of the local community”…
