Company marks “next phase” for micro reactor at Chalk River

Global First Power is moving forward with its plans for a “micro modular reactor” (MMR) at the Chalk River labs.

Representatives from GFP joined officials from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd Thursday morning to unveil a sign at the site of the proposed reactor and “to mark the next phase of this exciting clean energy demonstration project.”

GFP is a joint partnership between Ontario Power Generation and Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), a designer and supplier of MMR technology based out of Seattle, Washington.

Together, they hope to build and operate a 15 MW thermal MMR at Chalk River as the first step towards commercializing USNC’s technology and bring clean, reliable energy to remote locations….

Senior leaders from AECL, CNL and Global First Power are joined Thursday by local elected officials, industry partners and other distinguished guests to unveil the site of GFP’s proposed small modular reactor at the Chalk River Laboratories.
