“Billy the Kid” rides to Queen’s Park

“Billy the Kid” is riding the blue wave all the way to Queen’s Park.

Billy Denault, 24, the new candidate for Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke (RNP), won election by a landslide last Thursday night as Premier Doug Ford swept to his third majority government.

Across the province, the PCs won 80 of the province’s 124 ridings with almost 43 per cent of the vote.

Here in RNP, Denault did even better.

Despite it being his first run at provincial politics, Denault earned almost 55 per cent of the local vote with 24,297 ballots cast his way, a margin of 14,493 over second place finisher Oliver Jacob of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Jacob earned 9,804 votes, or 22 per cent of the ballots cast, while Marshall Buchanan of the Ontario NDP came third with 6,607 (just under 15 per cent).

Also running were Kevin Holm of the Ontario Party, who finished with 1,587 votes (3.5 per cent), Anna Dolan of the Green Party of Ontario who received 1,123 votes (2.5 per cent), and Mark Dickson of the New Blue Party, who trailed with 893 votes (2 per cent).

Following his victory, Denault noted that during the election campaign, someone in Killaloe joked that “Billy the Kid” is in town.

“Well, after yesterday’s results, I’m here to tell you Billy the Kid is in town, and I’m ready to be Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s gunslinger at Queen’s Park,” he said…
