Town to push for Internet answers

Deep River will be reaching out to four major Internet providers to try to get some answers as to what, if any, plans are in the works to improve connectivity issues in town.

The decision to do was prompted by a letter on last week’s council agenda from a resident who’s frustrated with the connectivity status quo.

Jason Poel wrote to council asking the town to investigate what work is planned over the next two years to improve residential Internet service in Deep River.

“A functional DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) speed of 25 Mbps, with a latency of 40 Mms or less, seems to be a reasonable benchmark for present-day Deep River, but I highly suspect there are very few subscribers who receive that level of service, DSL or otherwise,” Poel stated in his letter.

Poel asked the town is his letter to “contact the right people in the right offices” to find out what work is planned to improve Internet speeds and report back in early 2024 as to what was learned in that regard.

“If there is any relevant information uncovered, issue a press release and let people know what changes are anticipated,” he asked of council…
