Town to file joint “interest” in Keys

The town of Deep River will file a joint “expression of interest” in the former Keys School with the County of Renfrew.

Deep River council agreed last week to submit the joint interest in the potential purchase of the former school property, and to set aside $25,000 to hire consultants to conduct a “needs analysis, feasibility study, and cost estimate” to convert the school for community use.

In a report to council, town staff say an “expert service provider” will have the “experience and knowledge required to determine the long-term needs of the community.”

“External perspective will also provide a more objective approach to the project.”

The Renfrew County District School Board announced last month that it intended to dispose of Keys.

Under provincial regulations, the town would have until August 9 to submit an expression of interest and until November 7 to submit a formal offer to purchase the property…
