It’s probably not the Christmas present most people were hoping for.
Deep River council has set its water and sewer rates for next year and combined, they will be increasing by 7.3 percent over the 2024 rates.
In dollar figures, that translates into water and sewer bills for 2025 totalling $1,630.56, a $110.65 increase from the bills sent out this year.
The flat rate charge for water has been set for next year at $931.80, a $61.01 increase, while the sewer charge is $698.76 – a $49.64 increase.
The increases, unwelcome as they may be, shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as they were written on the wall more than three years ago, when council adopted a rate study prepared by Watson and Associates in support of the renewal of the town’s drinking water system licence…
