Deep River Reeve Glenn Doncaster promised there would be a special guest for the flag-raising ceremony at town hall to mark National Truth and Reconciliation Day, and he wasn’t kidding.
The guest of honour who was on hand to raise the orange flag was none other than Henry Adams, who spent his early childhood living in the historic log cabin at the yacht and tennis club.
Adams is the oldest surviving child of David and Mary Adams, the Algonquin couple who raised a large family at the cabin prior to it being expropriated for development of the Deep River townsite.
Adams drove up from Toronto with his wife, Vivian, to take part in the flag-raising ceremony, and was joined there as well by a large gathering of descendants of David and Mary Adams, who looked on with pride as he hoisted the flag high.
