Deep River is “turning a corner,” and heading in the right direction.
That theme was consistent throughout Mayor Sue D’Eon’s inaugural address last week as the new council was sworn into office for a four-year term.
Joining D’Eon, who was acclaimed to office for a second term in October’s municipal election, are Reeve Glenn Doncaster and incumbent Councillors Will Fitton, Christina Giardini, Kathy Hughes, Terry Myers, all of whom were re-elected in October’s municipal election, along with new Councillor Tom Vaughan, a fresh face on council.
In her address to council, D’Eon took pains to stress “that it’s not just about what we get done, but also how we get it done.”
“As I said seven years ago, council is seven unique individuals with different backgrounds and different points of view on what is best,” the mayor said.
“It’s important to remind ourselves to listen to dissenting points of view, since perhaps other’s suggestions will improve a solution, but if we don’t listen we won’t know.
“Everyone has a right to be heard and we all have an obligation to listen”…
