JUNE 13, 1973: The busiest legs on the local ballet scene this past season belonged to the talented mistress of the Deep River Ballet Club, Miss Aleida Sluyter. Under her expert tuition, the students of the club danced their way through one of the most ambitious seasons in the club’s long history – a season which included both the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations and a mini-ballet, The Snow Queen, staged to the delight of all in May.

JUNE 13, 1973: Last Wednesday, Deep River town council decided in principle to relinquish its control over the opening and closing hours of stores in Deep River and to leave merchants to regulate their own hours. Councillor Griffiths, chairman of the bylaw review committee which initiated this action, said only three merchants had expressed their opinions to her – one was in favour of no controls and two were against because they feared they would be forced to open for longer hours.
