The residents of Rapides des Joachims had something to celebrate Saturday, with a grand opening ceremony for the new splash pad in the municipality.
The splash pad will provide a fun way for youngsters in the village to cool down in the heat of this and future summers and former Mayor Doug Rouselle, who passed in 2023, was a driving force behind its installation.
Taking part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were, from left to right, Rapides des Joachims Mayor Lucie Paquette, Rouselle’s wife Joanne and MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller.
A memorial stone in honour of the former mayor has also been placed at the splash pad, which cost about $110,000 to build, with 90 percent of that funded by the provincial government.
As Toller told those in attendance, Rouselle fought hard at county council to secure that government funding for the splash pad in his municipality.
