School boards short bus drivers

Renfrew County students are headed back to the classroom next week, but some parents may need to find ways to get them there.

The Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium (RCJTC) is warning that a shortage of school bus drivers means some regularly scheduled routes may have to be cancelled for the start of the school year.

In a memo posted online Monday, the RCJTC said it has received notice from some of its school bus contractors that “they have not been able to retain, recruit and train enough drivers to cover all their routes.”

“The RCJTC continues to work collaboratively with the contracted school bus operators to find solutions to lessen the impact of the current situation,” the memo says…
