School asks town to move skateboard ramps

The skateboard ramps near Mackenzie Community School (MCS) are having a detrimental effect on the students there.

That’s the sentiment of MCS principal Megan Robillard, who has written a letter to Deep River council calling for the ramps to be removed from the property.

“I am writing to request that the town of Deep River consider the immediate removal of the skate park currently situated on the property bordering Mackenzie Community School,” Robillard states in her letter, which is on council’s agenda this week.

“While the facility is a valuable asset for our youth, its current proximity to the school grounds has created unintended negative consequences that impact both student success and community safety.”

Robillard went on to say she has noticed several “concerning patterns” regarding the use of the space in recent months, including its impact on the education of students at MCS.
