Under the Criminal Code, murder is defined as when a person causes the death of another human being, whether they mean to cause that person’s death or mean to cause “bodily harm that he knows is likely to cause his death, and is reckless whether death ensues or not.”
Murder is considered first degree when it is “planned and deliberate,” when it is committed against a police officer or other peace officer, or when it is committed during another offence such as kidnapping or sexual assault.
“All murder that is not first degree murder is second degree murder.”
Charges of murder may be reduced to manslaughter “if the person who committed it did so in the heat of passion caused by sudden provocation.”
Friends have already been sharing messages of condolence on social media.
“U were the strongest woman I’ve ever met, I hope your soul finds peace after this, u will be forever missed,” said one.
“You were a fighter in EVERY way… you deserve justice for this absolute horror that has riddled my being and many others and took your beautiful kind soul far too soon,” said another.
The charges against Rossi are the second case of murder in Deep River’s history.
John Craig Cameron, then 54, of Parry Sound, was found guilty in 2013 on charges of first degree murder and sentenced by Superior Court Justice Julianne Parfett to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Cameron was charged in the shooting death of his daughter-in-law, Michelle Martel Cameron, 27, on March 15, 2011.
