The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in conjunction with the Deep River Police Service, say they are investigating a death in the town of Deep River.
In a statement released late Monday morning, police say officers attended a residence on Rutherford Avenue on Sunday night shortly after 8:30 pm to conduct a well-being check, where one person was located deceased.
“While the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety,” the statement says.
“The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.”
OPP units working with the Deep River Police include the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Regional Support Team (RST) and the UOV OPP Crime Unit.
In addition to the home on Rutherford, police have also cordoned off the alleyway behind the Glendale Plaza and have conducted walking searches around the area of the Deep River post office.
Police say the investigation is in its early stages and “no further details can be released at this time.”
“Residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence.”
Anyone with any information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact the UOV OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.valleytips.ca.
