NRFS faces “serious” financial challenge

After 50 years of serving the area, North Renfrew Family Services is facing “serious financial challenges” in the year ahead.

In a letter to Deep River council, the chair of the agency’s board of directors, De Groeneveld, and executive director Tracy Russell are asking the municipality to consider increasing its annual grant of $10,000.

“Although its client base has been increasing especially after COVID-19, NRFS’s revenue has not kept up with the increased demand for its services and as a result NRFS is forecasting a large budget deficit,” they say.

“Note that NRFS does not charge a counselling fee but encourages its clients to donate.”

The letter notes that NRFS has a large client base – “about one in 10 people in our community have been helped by NRFS”….
