No school for solar eclipse

The Renfrew County District School Board has changed one of its PA days next spring to ensure students will not be in school on the day of a total solar eclipse.

In a statement released last week, the school board said the county will be in the “path of totality” for a solar eclipse expected Monday, April 8, with the region experiencing “complete darkness” at approximately 3:23 pm.

“This is a very rare solar event for the local area,” the board said.

“Maintaining a regular school day will present several challenges to staff and students in our schools with respect to transportation and safety.”

The RCDSB says it has consulted with the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board and their joint transportation board to switch a planned PA day for Friday, April 26 to Monday, April 8.

“By aligning the PA day with the date of the eclipse, it will provide the least amount of disruption to families, school teams, and transportation partners,” the board said…
