No deal for CNL, professionals

It’s no deal for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and the union representing more than 700 scientists and engineers at Chalk River.

CNL and the Chalk River Professional Employees Group (CRPEG) have been working on a new contract for more than a year.

After declaring the talks “at a standstill,” the two sides met for three days last week with the help of a federal conciliator.

In a bulletin posted last Friday, CRPEG president Jonathan Fitzpatrick said the union team “came to the table ready to negotiate with a strong mandate for job action, in hopes of pressuring the company to finally make a fair offer.”

“We did not reach a deal.”

Fitzpatrick said CNL made “a marginal increase to their offer, but nowhere near what our professional members deserve”….
