Local municipalities pick up extra “weighted” votes

The three municipalities of North Renfrew have each picked up an additional vote, but it won’t do much to change the balance of power at the Renfrew County council table.

Under a 2001 bylaw, each municipality in the county is assigned a number of “weighted votes” based on the total number of their municipal electors.

County staff presented members of the county’s finance and administration committee with an updated list of those weighted votes, after a couple of issues went to a countdown recently.

Under the updated count, Deep River now has eight weighted votes (for 3,663 electors), up from seven, while Laurentian Hills has seven votes for 3,099 electors, up from six.
