Deep River’s new council will look very much like the old council when the new term begins next month.
All five incumbents running for re-election in this year’s municipal vote will return to office for another four years.
They will join Mayor Sue D’Eon, who was acclaimed to office when nominations closed back in August.
Deep River election results released shortly after the polls closed Monday night show current Reeve Glenn Doncaster and Councillors Will Fitton, Kathy Hughes, Christina Giardini and Terry Myers will all return to the council table.
They will be joined by council newcomer Tom Vaughan, who was running for council for the first time.
Doncaster defeated former Deep River Police constable Cathy Ryan.
Left out in a six-way race for five positions as councillor was one-time town treasurer Larry Dumoulin.
This year’s municipal election was actually the fifth time Dumoulin had run for council, following unsuccessful campaigns for mayor in 2000, 2003 and 2018 and for the position of councillor in 2006.
Turnout was low this year compared to the last elections in 2018, when 63 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballot.
This year 1,281 residents cast their votes through the electronic voting system, with 14 abstaining.
In the race for reeve, Doncaster received the support of 949 voters (74.9 per cent) to 318 (25.1 per cent) for Ryan.
With voters able to cast up to five votes for councillor, Fitton topped the polls with the support of 1,109 electors, followed by Hughes at 1,001, Giardini with 995, Vaughan with 991 and Myers with 990.
Dumoulin finished more than 600 behind with 381 votes cast his way.
The new council will be sworn in for the 2022-26 term at an inaugural meeting November 16.
