Hundreds turn out to candlelight vigil

More than 250 people turned out in the first frigid weather of the winter Monday night to remember the woman killed last week in Deep River’s second-ever homicide.

Sommer Boudreau, 39, of Deep River was identified last week as the victim of the homicide at a home on Rutherford Ave.

Adam Rossi, a 41-year-old male, has been charged under the Criminal Code with second degree murder and “indignity to a body.”

He remains in custody at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre and is scheduled to make another appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Wednesday, December 28.

Monday night’s candlelight vigil was held to mourn Boudreau and remember all who are victims of violence against women.

Sommer Boudreau’s sister, Ashley Boudreau was also the victim of femicide, murdered in January 2010 by her partner at a home in Ottawa when she was 24 years old.

The vigil was organized by EVA – End Violence Against Women – Renfrew County.

Director JoAnne Brooks said she was pleased with the turnout and hoped it would help the family and community deal with the tragedy.

“It’s just a moment – there’s so much healing still to be done – but I think it’s good for people to be able to come together,” she said…
