Home sales remain slow in August

Renfrew County home sales and new listings remained subdued in August.

The Renfrew County Real Estate Board reports the number of homes sold through its Multiple Listing Service (MLS) system totalled 141 units in August 2023, down by 4.1% (six sales) from August 2022.

Home sales were 20.9% below the five-year average and 14.5% below the 10-year average for the month of August.

On a year-to-date basis, home sales totalled 1,066 units over the first eight months of the year. This was a significant decrease of 14.8% from the same period in 2022.

The average price of homes sold in August 2023 was $434,905, up modestly by 2.4% from August 2022.

The more comprehensive year-to-date average price was $445,164, a decrease of 6.7% from the first eight months of 2022.

While home sales remained sluggish, the number of homes coming on the market increased by 2.3% (five listings) from August 2022. There were 218 new residential listings in August 2023.

New listings were 2.9% below the five-year average and 7.5% below the 10-year average for the month of August.

Active residential listings numbered 406 units on the market at the end of August, a gain of 12.5% from the end of August 2022, but 2.4% below the five-year average and 49% below the 10-year average for the month of August.
