Deep River is finally caught up with its financial statements, after being presented with them twice in the same year.
Normally, municipalities are presented with their audited financial statements in the spring of each year.
Deep River council was presented with those statements last June but, owing to staff turnovers at town hall, they were for the year 2022, rather than 2023.
And the numbers they contained didn’t bode well for the town’s financial position, as the town wrapped up 2022 down $723,341 from where it stood at the end of 2021.
But, with staffing levels back to normal and a new treasurer at the helm, the town was able to present the auditors’ 2023 statements before year’s end, at council’s last meeting of the year on December 18.
The 2023 statements show the town ended 2023 with a surplus of $1.48 million, compared to a restated deficit of $886,684 for 2022…
