The long waiting list for slip rentals at the Deep River marina could be reduced for next year’s boating season.
A recommendation on the table of this week’s council meeting is calling for pre-budget approval to spend $285,000 for a marina dock expansion project.
The seasonal slips at the marina are consistently at full-capacity, with a current waitlist of 89 boaters.
The expansion would provide an additional 24 additional slips, each measuring 16-feet long, located outside the existing marina breakwall.
The town’s director of operations, Dave McCarthy, states in a report to council that, although the new location is more exposed to wind and wave action, the system proposed is specifically designed for open-water applications.
“The design incorporates a 38-foot break water-style dock section to reduce wave and wind action and provide protection to the slips,” McCarthy says in his report…
