Deep River Police celebrate third annual gala

The uniforms Deep River police officers wear are more than fabric and a badge, and the officers themselves are interwoven into the fabric of the community.

That was one of the messages coming out of third annual gala honouring members of the Deep River Police Service.

The gala, hosted by the Deep River Police Association, was held at the waterfront Hexagon restaurant Monday evening, and its master of ceremonies, Constable Mike Slattery, minced no words in saying how proud he and his colleagues are in protecting and serving their community.

“Every day, police officers step into the unknown. They leave their families, not knowing exactly what the day may hold, yet they choose service over self.

“They choose duty over comfort. They choose to protect people they may never meet, in ways that often go unseen,” Slattery told those in attendance at the gala.

“The uniform is more than fabric and a badge. It represents sacrifice, commitment and the highest ideals of public service.

“It’s a reminder that safety is not something we can take for granted. It exists because of the watchful eyes, steady hands and the brave hearts of those who serve.”

Constable Marek Brela, president of the Deep River Police Association, echoed those sentiments, adding that the officers are also members of the community, with some raising children in the town they serve.

“To us, working in Deep River also comes with a sense of pride,” Brela said…
