Will Deep River council members vote to give themselves pay hikes of 30 to 70 per cent?
Council will receive a report from town staff tonight recommending significant increases in council remuneration.
Based on a comparison to other Renfrew County municipalities, staff are recommending the mayor’s honorarium be raised to $34,116, while the reeve would receive $21,318 and councillors $18,463.
Council’s pay was last reviewed in 2013.
Adjusted for inflation, rates for 2023 are currently projected to be $25,676 for the mayor, $14,296 for the reeve, and $10,730 for each councillor.
The staff report says the average for six comparator municipalities in the county runs at $42,835 for mayor, $26,766 for reeve or deputy mayor, and $23,182 for councillor…
