Deep River council approves ATV “pilot project”

Deep River council has approved in principle a three-year pilot project allowing all-terrain vehicles to drive on municipal roadways.

The pilot project will see ATVs permitted on certain roads and trails approved by the municipality, while restricting their access to other areas such as parks, playgrounds, beaches and trails.

That freedom to roam would run from May 1 to November 30 each year, with speeds limited to 20 km/hour.

ATVs would also be restricted from using town roads at night, from “one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise.”

Councillor Will Fitton said the pilot project bylaw checks all the boxes in terms of safe ATV riding practices.
