County OKs ATVs on Deep River roads

Deep River’s pilot project geared towards allowing off-road vehicles on municipal roadways cleared a major hurdle last week.

Renfrew County council signed off on a recommendation from its operations committee to remove restrictions for off-road vehicles on Ridge Road and Deep River Road.

Those two roads were folded into the county roads system during the term of former Deep River Mayor David Thompson, with the goal at the time to save the town money on their respective maintenance costs.

Deep River’s current council requested the restrictions be lifted to allow off-road vehicles to access trails south of Highway 17, as part of a pilot project which will allow such vehicles to drive on town streets from May to November of each year, with speeds restricted to 20 km/hour…
