Council open to proposal for town hall clock

All eyes were on the clock at Deep River council recently. Or the potential for a clock.

Allan Symons, owner and curator of the Canadian Clock Museum (TCCM) here in town, was joined by Phil Simpson in pitching a proposal to place a town clock somewhere in Deep River’s downtown core.

The two men are seeking council’s approval for the town to work with them and clock-supplier Verdin Canada on clock designs and options for locations, as well as for the town, with its charitable status, to act as a conduit for people wishing to make financial donations to the project.

The Canadian Clock Museum is looking at a number of options for the location and style of a clock, including installing a dual-faced, all-weather clock in the round front window of Deep River’s town hall.

Simpson told council the architect of the town hall has confirmed that a clock was intended to be placed in that window when the building was designed some 30 years ago.

“It never got done. They put a round window in instead,” Simpson said….
