Cogeco Internet service pushed back to 2024-25?

Local residents may be waiting a year or more before higher speed Internet services are available through a federally funded program.

Cogeco Connexion announced in 2021 that it hoped to have service to cable customers in Deep River and Chalk River by last spring.

But in an update last week, Cogeco is now saying service to local homes will not be available until 2024.

Kristen Curry, communications and public relations manager for Ontario, said Cogeco began its fibre backbone project in 2019 in partnership with Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED) as part of the “Connect to Innovate” program.

Curry said that as the fibre backbone project is “nearing completion, with the final components planned for spring 2023, Cogeco now intends to move into Phase 2 for the area.”

“Design work is now underway, and full project completion is planned for December 2025, with Cogeco’s goal of having some homes serviceable by the end of 2024”…
